words

think about this situation...

there are many couples in the world who find it hard to communicate with their partners
some reasons maybe difference in

- language
- culture
- upbringing
- personality...
and many other things...

but lets just consider language today...

I do the odd translating for friends and fam.
just casual stuff, like CVs, emails and paragraphs for webpages.

i had the weird and wonderful experience of translating a letter today.

it was a 'sorry I couldnt say this when we broke the relationship of but...'
kind of letter.

not going into detail the reason of the breakup,
my friend asked me to translate some of her thoughts as she felt as she could not communicate on a deeper level to her partner due to a language barrier.

she had all these emotions, thoughts, words that wanted she wanted to speak of...
but she couldnt due to the lack of words.

frustrated with the situation and herself... she asked me to translate a letter as she now felt that the relationship they had deserved an 'proper' (whatever that may mean) closure.

I am not singling out that language was the only reason, but it was one of the reasons why the relationship was strained.ending their relationship on a bitter note.

I personally cannot comprehend how many people marry people who they cannot communicate well to. some people say that language is no barrier but seriously, if you are thinking to spend the rest of your life with a significant other, would you not want to tell them how you feel without the fear of the other misunderstanding how you feel due to your lack of words/language?
and yes, i understand that gestures and body language also plays a large part in 'communicating'... but still.. i would want to enjoy a good conversation and an occasional debate.

This is my personal take, and if there are couples out there who's relationships work fine, well i am happy for them. but for me personally,
its hard enough understanding how your partner feels in certain situations... not being able to tell them how you feel because of a language barrier.. i dont think i could stand.

i dont know, maybe if an exotic guy from the other side of the world, sweeps me off my feet i would think otherwise...
